Show me your Claws!

I have always had a particular love of  old claw foot tubs.  Just makes you want to take a warm bubble bath, drink some wine and light some aroma candles...  ahhhh... sounds awesome .....
My love for these claw foot tubs goes beyond the powder room..  drawn to old rustic furniture  - tables, stools, chairs and even small ornate chests proudly displaying their Claws!
I recently listed a set at my etsy shoppe- these are more the Cast iron ball Foot.
they were used on cook stoves and wood stoves during Victorian era. I love them rusty, chippy and even painted. I did shabby mine up with white paint. for the cottage chic look.
They are nice pieces just for display on the mantle with books. as door stops.
and really great legs for that altered coffee table you have been dreaming of!

The Mighty Acorns

The Bounty of Fall is Amazing.
After the beautiful displays of colorful Blooms of  Spring and Summer...
Last but not Least~  Comes  the Rustic Beauties .
And well to some... they may be as beautiful as the Rose.
Who can deny the beauty of the turning of the leaves in Indian Summer.
But the Hardwood blooms are just as Awesome... We all love the Pinecones!
But the Mighty Little Acorns are something to be reckoned with also...
After all from these little  Acorns ....the  Mighty OAK  grows!  ..
Maybe the Strongest of of  ALL Trees!
I chose to photograph the English Acorn this year .. as it is a sight to behold
for its size alone.
Beautiful in displays, wreaths, and make beautiful Photo Displays also!

Indian Summer

Finally - we are basking in A sun that is  ~ warm ~ !
Warm as in the 80s-90s.
Long gone are the Triple digits of the St Louis Dog Days we endured.
This summer really placed a damper on enjoying garden time except - early AM hours or late late Evenings!
AND I love to be in my garden !
I am so inspired by the weather that I am jumping into some projects.. new items for the shoppe!
I am not too thrilled about working in my garden shed...I  Really feel boxed in.. :)
I think we are more creative in the space that makes us the happiest! :)

Not an easy feat... but carried my Mitre Saw to the patio!
My Big Project was this custom garden table -
It is now in Kansas City with a very happy Customer!

Today I have been creating some new wall racks and mantels from my salvaged wood treasures.

I am going through my stock - to see what I DO have... I found some pieces that are awesome!
Soooo some new shelfs / mantels coming to the shoppe soon!
{i bet you are thinking to yourself ..hmmmm. she is not messy!
and yes ..i did take before i made a mess.... but i dont do messy well...
i like organized clean spaces to work in}

Beautiful Visions

I love when customers share their artistic projects from treasures they find at 3Vintagehearts!
Salvaged Antique windows are very popular pieces in my shoppe..
I like to use them for my garden tables I design and 
always pleasantly surprised at the wonderful ideas that customers themselves use them for.
Liz purchased one of my small antique window frames recently.
She was excited as it was just the right size she was hoping to find.
Antique - chippy - distressed type! Very Rustic Farmhouse!
I had taken my leaf blower and cleaned the sediment and loose paint and she had 
assured me I did not need to repaint or shabby chic it for her!
This week she contacted me with her beautiful art piece 
and I am just amazed by it...
It is quite awesome ! and I wanted to share her beautiful work.
Liz placed a burlap background in the frame and used old book pages to design her 
Flower Wreath and added a touch of color with dried flowers from the Hobby Lobby! 
very Beautiful Job! and best part it is ~ Uniquely hers~!
I love finding salvage architectural pieces and sharing my treasures for 
unlimited Beautiful Visions!

Tea Parties

From 8 to 80 ... do we ever stop dreaming of Tea Parties?
Little Girls turn into Big Girls and still want to have our Tea Parties!
WE collect them , display them, dress for them and 
find any excuse to invite our friends to them..
I love my teacups from the my childhood  and all my collections along the way!

White Shabby Chic Shelf - Rack for displaying among many things 
some of your prized Teacups and Saucers.
I came across a  group of vintage salvaged church pew hymn holders from a small church that was being demolished...
My goodness what could I do with a dozen of these?!
I sold a few at Etsy for flowers boxes and organizers for office walls.
I wondered what did I want to do with mine! I soon found myself looking for my white paint can and this is how I altered these blessed boxes !
This is one of my Favorite Altered Cottage Decor Shelves.

1950s Grace Kelly Chantilly Cream Wedding Dress

I have found the most gorgeous fabulous 1950s crown jewel in my travels.
She is a  Vintage Grace Kelley Fashionista Piece
Size Small -- most likely a Size 3 or 4 Tea Length gown.
Off the shoulders style with fitted waist with 6 crown points dropping to circle Skirt
Lace drops to points over the organza lining and crepe pleated ruffled hemline
Tulle lining underskirt and criss crossed over the Sweetheart Lace Bustline.
Back is all self covered buttons.. {32} for beautiful style coming or going!
you will definetly feel like a princess cupcake in this dress.

Architectural Salvage Archaeologist

Love my search and rescue missions for architect salvage.

It is a hide and seek game... maybe will find at an estate sale...

 or auction or sometimes have to literally dig to find!

These  100 year old Wooden Treasures that  sell at

 3vintagehearts are not always beautiful when Rescued!

And although Finding is half the fun! 

The challenge begins once I get them to the shoppe!

Usually line them up in area where using my airhose --

 blow out a hundred years of sediment, dirt, soot and paint.....!!!!!

than there are the NAILS..... usually ridden with nails and such --

square peg nails.... awesome lil finds in themselves!!!!!!

pull the extra out to store for future use.. !

A spray wash is next and the sun does absolutely 

wonderful things for theses pieces...

makes them seem fresh again like linens hanging on the clothesline.

Glue and nail any pieces that need attention... 

and than comes the white paint!

Like to just touch up the original paint with light coat to give clean look again

if a piece is in very bad shape .. will give a couple of coats....

 and than sand and distress again for the original look...

 as like to keep as primitive as I can...

once the grunt work is completed

than my creative mind goes to work for a one of a kind use!

bookends, frames, shelves, mantels, and such!

Going up to the Spirits in the Sky

Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hyde Park St Louis, Mo
German Church Founded in 1849 and rebuilt in 1898 to the glorious stature that it is now.
French Gothic Revival Style with Twin Spires rising  to 215 ft
and can be seen from  Hwy 70 that passes by the historic area .
St louis is currently revitalizing this neighborhood and many 150 year old homes are being rehabbed
or torn down to make way for new homes.

Captured this photo yesterday while visiting the neighborhood.
Dedicate this beautiful view and caption to my two long time feline companions
that lived 17 and 18 years .. bless them for sharing my journey and making life a little sweeter
and more sentimental.

My Vintage Cadillac's

A "RETRO RED" ~ THE Cadillac of the Radio Flyer Scooters ~

A landmark at my Cottage ...always braving the elements..

Subject to conversations by the neighborhood kids..

they come to revel in her glory...

AND ..of course they want to pull the cadillac out for a spin!

this is where SCOOTER often does his best poses !

Last not but least.. is my RED  TRIKE Convertible..

1950's Cadillac that graces the Cottage Garden area...one of my first trikes

{ my mom saved all these years}  Even though she recently lost her steering device..

She still makes for great candlelight ambiance in the Garden!

I love recycling these old drawers...they can have many purposes.. shadow boxes, garden totes, planters, whatever! 

these are so useful and easy to carry and just the right size... i place all my seed packets in it in the spring... and this time of year keep her around close by with gloves and tools...

besides i think she is as pretty as the blooming flowers around her!...
time worn and oohhh only if she talk ..........the stories of where this lil character has been!

Kentucky Derby TraditionS!

The Kentucky Derby is more than just a race -- it's an annual society event.!  
Since the first Derby in 1875,  the race has become steeped in traditions ranging from specific food and drink to proper Derby attire!
True Southern Belles will be adorned with beautiful headpieces! and sipping on Mint Juleps with their Southern Gentlemen!
The traditional luncheon will be served!

Kentucky Derby Hot Browns
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups milk
6 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons heavy cream
salt and pepper to taste
2 pounds sliced roasted turkey
1 tomato, thinly sliced
8 slices white bread, toasted
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
8 slices crispy bacon
Directions
1.Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in flour with a whisk or fork, and continue to cook and stir until it begins to brown slightly. Gradually whisk in the milk so that no lumps form, then bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Mix in 6 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese and then stir in the beaten egg to thicken. Do not allow the sauce to boil once the egg has been mixed in. Remove from the heat and stir in the cream.
2.Preheat the oven's broiler. For each hot brown, place two slices of toast into the bottom of an individual sized casserole dish. Cover with a liberal amount of roasted turkey and tomato slices. Spoon sauce over the top of each one and sprinkle with some of the remaining Parmesan cheese.
3.Place the dishes under the broiler and cook until the top is speckled brown, about 5 minutes. Remove from the broiler and arrange two slices of bacon in a cross shape on top of each sandwich. Serve immediately.

AND MY FAVORITE !..... although the original pie has very secret ingredients.. there are many versions.... and this happens to be my fav!

Kentucky Derby Pie
1 cup white corn syrup
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup butter, melted
3 eggs- beaten
1 cup chopped pecans
1/3 c kentucky bourbon
6 oz chocolate chips
1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch single crust pie
1.Combine syrup, sugar, salt, & melted margarine. Slightly beat the eggs, and add to sugar mixture. Add bourbon and half of pecans.
Place choc chips into pie shell before pouring pie mixture.
Sprinkle remaining pecans on top.

2.Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 50 to 60 minutes.

WISH..I was setting in the Millionaires Row sipping my mint julep right now..with my Southern Gentleman... but will just have to settle for front row in the infield here at the cottage!
